Does Love Ever Fail?
Love never fails. We hear 1 Corinthians 13:8 all the time at weddings, but how can it be true when there are such things as divorce, adultery, abuse, and breakups?
If you ask me, love seems to fail us quite a lot, or at least human love does.
That’s the thing–human love will fail. We are not God, therefore we are not perfect. We lie, get angry, and hurt one another. It’s inevitable.
So then why does the Bible tell us that love never fails?
Because it’s not about our human love: it’s about God’s perfect love. And you know what? God’s love never fails.
Once again, we need to stop cherry picking Bible verses and read the context of each verse. 1 Corinthians 13 is talking about the perfect love of our mighty God! He is patient and kind. Jesus is humble and forgets our wrongs.
Our job is not to try and show perfect love because it’s impossible for us. Our job is to show others the love that God has poured out for us! That is when they will see the unfailing love that God gives so freely.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV).
