No Fear in Love

It’s no secret that there is a lot of evil in this world. With all of the mass shootings in America and overseas, and the spread of evil terrorist groups, it seems that the world is falling into darkness.

The Bible said that this would happen. Evil has been in the world since the fall of Adam, and it will only continue until the Lord Jesus Christ comes back. Why do these things happen? People have all sorts of explanation–including blaming God. Just to be clear, God does not cause sin to happen, but He does allow it to happen here on earth (James 1:13).

As sons and daughters of God we will have to live in this fallen world until Jesus comes back to banish all evil and reign eternally. So where does this leave us right now? As we watch the news and see all of the reports of violence and immorality, where do we seek shelter? As we live among hatred and perversion, where can we find peace and love?

To be honest, I have been asking myself these questions over and over as anxiety sweeps over me. It’s even nerve wrecking just typing this post and thinking about all of the evil in the world. However, we don’t have to be afraid. Even though we live in a sinful world–and are sometimes still victims of sin–we can rise above it.We have the power and peace of the Most High God.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (John 16:33 KJV).

Our peace is obviously not going to come from this world. The Bible does not promise us that life will be all roses and sugar once we come to know Christ. In fact, things can become harder as God cleanses us of our former selves. Our peace can’t come from our material items, our house, our family, or our loved ones. It can only come from one source that is eternal and never changing–Jesus.

We can’t always change our circumstances, however, we can change how we react to our life situation.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV).

With the spirit of God residing in us, we do not have to live in fear and anxiety all the time. The Holy Spirit allows us to live with power from above. He also allows us to live a life of love and peace.

I found that in the midst of life’s greatest stresses and hardships, I sometimes find it hard to carve out the time to pray or read my Bible. I sometimes lose the will and energy to worship. Even though I feel the pull of my spirit to God’s, I sometimes fail to seek Him until I’m at my breaking point.

This is the trick of the devil. He does not want us to draw close to God in our time of need, instead satan would rather leave us isolated in our anxiety or depression. We have to learn to fight this evil trick and seek God first each day–no matter what it brings. This is a practice, and I am getting better at it over time.

If there is only one thing you get from reading this post, I hope it’s that you know you’re not alone. Don’t let the enemy isolate you. If you are young and trying to find God’s calling for your life, then you are especially vulnerable. Trust God, because He will take care of you. He has a perfect plan that sometimes we can’t always see.

Below I posted a song from Steffany Gretzinger called “No Fear in Love.” Steffany is an amazing artist who is so anointed by God, and this song has helped me through my anxiety tremendously. Please feel free to check it out!

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love (1 John 4:18 NKJV).
