Casual Friday Fashion + Prayer Request

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! I’ve been up to my elbows in exams and course work, but by God’s grace I am making it! I must admit it has been a struggle though. My IBS has been flaring up, and I am consulting with my specialists to try and figure out where to go from here. I think I need a whole regimen change, so please pray for direction and healing!

Today’s post is about everyday casual fashion. Sometimes what a girl needs is a good pair of jeans, a comfy sweater, and a big mug of coffee or tea!

I used a lot of gray for this collage because it’s my favorite neutral. And for all of my crazy cat ladies out there–check out those flats! The cat mug is also adorable.

I paired a comfy pullover with some boyfriend jeans for a casual, yet chic look. I also like taupe eye shadow to keep things casual and natural. Thankfully there are lots of affordable neutral palettes at drug stores.

I hope you liked this post! Please feel free to comment and share. I also want to thank you for keeping me in your prayers. I plan on doing another health update in the near future!

Happy Hiking Boots + What Should I Write??

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Life is busy as usual, with many good things happening all around me (including my brother’s upcoming wedding!). Anyway, while life is running a mile a minute and I’m trying to edit my book, sometimes I get stuck on what to post for my blog.

I always let the Holy Spirit be my guide when it comes to writing posts about my faith, but that doesn’t mean I never get writer’s block! So I’m asking for your help.

What do you want me to write about?

Is there any life issue you’re facing or advice you think I can provide? Do you want me to post some creative fiction? Any current issues you want me to cover from a faith point of view? Something else?? Please let me know in the comments below or contact me here!

Thanks for your feedback 🙂 Now time to talk boots! I LOVE boots. They are my favorite type of shoe to wear (other than Converse). Although my style is kind of girly, I love a nice tomboy boot.

Hiking boots in particular are trending right now. I don’t really hike (unless walking around on campus counts lol), but I do love the cozy feel and slightly rugged look of these boots.

You can get a “duck boot” (top left) for an extra edgy appeal. You can also find boots with heels for a more girly vibe. There are also other colors besides traditional browns (like the navy pair on the bottom right). They go so well with any fall outfit and are perfect for chilly temperatures.

I actually have the duck boots from the collage above! They are Esprit brand, and I got them for a bargain at T.J. Maxx. I love wearing them with my burgundy cardigans or a chunky sweater and skinny jeans. I actually wore them to a cider mill last weekend, and let me tell you, I felt like I was in a fall advertisement.

October Style~Edgy Cardigans

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! To all of my readers in Florida and South Carolina who are going through Hurricane Matthew, my prayers are with you. I have family down south, but fortunately they live inland. I hope you all stay safe!

Today’s post is dedicated to my edgy Mossimo Cardigan from Target! I am absolutely obsessed with this beauty. I stumbled upon it on accident while searching for a dress to wear to my Grandma’s funeral. I guess that’s what Target does to you. I always walk in intending to buy one thing and walk out with something else 🙂

As you can see, the cardigan is a moto jacket style with pointed ends. It is a little shorter in the back and very flattering. The sleeves are nice and long, and it fits true to size. I love pairing it with a simple tee and some fall boots!

The cardigan also came in black, but I loved the white because of the black and grey speckles of fabric woven in. It is a very subtle, yet edgy texture that really adds dimension. The cardigan is thick, like a light jacket. It’s great for those chilly fall mornings and warmer afternoons.

I hope you liked this review! Cardigans and boots are my addiction right now (especially in burgundy). I’m thinking of doing a style post on some of my boots next. What do you think of that? Let me know in the comments below!

The Color of Fall~Burgundy

207419019

Hello lovely readers and followers! I know it’s not Friday, but I just felt like switching things up.  Life has been getting super busy with college right now, and I really am starting to feel the pressure.

God is so good though. I love the blogging community and all of the support I’ve been given. You are all awesome!

I’ve never been a huge fan of the color red, but this season things are different. I’m starting to really love read sweaters and jewelry. My favorite shade is burgundy because it is so versatile. It compliments any skin tone and hair color.

Burgundy is also the perfect color for fall. It’s slightly dark and pairs well with navy and brown–the hot neutrals of this season.

Thanks for reading! Do you like burgundy? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

The Mask Effect

1473824064731

Isn’t it funny how we fill our Instagram and Facebook feeds with pictures of our food or pets? We photograph and write about our lives for the sake of a like or follow.

Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. The truth is that we do like the attention (even I do). We like how social media can turn us into little online celebrities. However, sometimes scrolling through these sites for too long can make me feel depressed and shrink away my confidence. Do you ever feel that way, lovely reader?

What is the problem here? The cause of our social media induced anxiety is what I like to call the “Mask Effect.”

Online, we can be whoever we want to be. We can post nothing but the highlights of our lives (which we often do). We can edit our photos to give us the “perfect body,” or only post pictures of salads and kale smoothies for dinner (when most of the time we eat PB&J and pizza, right?).

We create a little utopia for ourselves, only the problem is, we’re not really living this out in real life. After all, no one is perfect.  The psychology term for this is cognitive dissonance.

I’m not saying social media is all bad, but it has become a mask to hide our true selves. We all want to feel worthy and loved, and social media seems to be our outlet for this. Social media is fun and useful. As a blogger, I use it frequently! But in order to utilize it in a healthy way, we need to recognize that our self-worth does not come from other people’s approval.

The only true source of self-worth and love can come from Jesus. He is the well that never runs empty.

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14 NKJV).

When we seek after the things of this world, like approval from people, we can never be truly satisfied. Only God can satisfy us with a love that never fails.

Life is a balance. Enjoy your social media, but remember that’s not all life is about. Keep your heart and mind focused on God, and you will find true peace and joy that can never be taken away.

I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope (Psalm 16:8-9 NKJV).
