Outfit Inspiration: Lace Up Details

207419216

Laces and ties are everywhere right now. Even though they might not always look modest, they can be altered to suit your needs. The key is choosing pieces that have a layer of fabric or slip underneath the lace, or pieces that have tight laces (like the purple top above). Another modesty hack would be to wear a camisole underneath a tied blouse to keep it classy (like the tan sweater above).

This trend is fun because it adds texture and dimension to an outfit without using patterns or loud colors. It also gives that western bohemian vibe. Perfect for a fall bonfire!

A Life Worth Noticing

1473390827168

Have you ever laid out the on the grass, gazing at the stars as you try (and fail) to number them? Have you ever been struck by the glowing water colors of a sunrise or sunset? Have you ever stood at the shore of the ocean or a great lake and felt infinitely small?

Imagine the God who created all of these things. The God who made the entire universe with His hands (Psalm 8:3)! And then there’s…us.

I don’t know about you, but most of the time I feel like a pretty ordinary person. I go to college, babysit, write, and go to church. And yeah, that’s all awesome, but then I go on Instagram and see all of these posts by girls who travel and have all of the perfect clothes, jobs, and looks. Is it just me, or does everyone look like a celebrity on social media these days?

Now obviously everyone is a person, just the same as you and me. However, getting caught up in the boring daily grind can make us feel just so…ordinary. Or even less than that.

I was struggling with these feelings one day when God spoke into my heart. He reminded me this:

God is our Father. We are His children, so we carry His attributes. Now I’m not saying that we’re God or perfect like Jesus. But what I am saying is that God made us in His image, therefore we all possess some of His unique traits.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (Genesis 1:27 NKJV).

Are you a musician or an artist? God gave you that part of Himself. Are you a writer or public speaker? Again, that is one of God’s gifts. Maybe you carry the humility or service of Jesus in your heart. The beauty of it is that we’re all unique and special to God.

Do you want to change the way you see yourself and others? Practice what Jesus did–notice people.

When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed (Matthew 8:1-3 NKJV).

In Biblical times, people did not even go near those with leprosy. They were pretty much forgotten. Jesus not only noticed the man with leprosy, but he actually touched him! Have you ever felt the hand of God reach out and touch you at your worst? One reason why Jesus’ love is so special is because He notices us.

When my Grandma Jean was dying in the hospital, I had the amazing opportunity to notice people. I took the time to notice the crying woman alone in the next bed and got to pray with her. I took the time to notice how dry my Grandma’s feet were and rub them with lotion.

No, these are not Instagram worthy acts that will make us famous, but they are acts of love that will make Jesus famous.

If you want to see just how much God loves the world, including you, take the time to notice those around you. Ask God to give you His heart of compassion. You are not just an ordinary person. Any life that points to Jesus is a life of eternal importance.

Fall Fashion Review~Cleo Madison

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Today is a very special post because I am doing a fashion review for modest clothing company Cleo Madison. This online company sells clothes that are both classy and stylish. All skirts and dresses are around knee length, so you don’t have to worry about anything being too short. Their tops are also longer in length, with just the right amount of coverage.

Cleo Madison mentioned my blog in their post about modesty, and I was very honored. I asked if I could do a clothing review for them, and they agreed! In my experience, this is a very friendly company to work with.

I feel kind of bad because this is my first review and I’m posting it later than I expected. Since my Grandma died and the new semester started, it feels like my whole life has changed. But the good news is I’m back and working things out to bring you all even more fashion posts like these!

Now on to the review!

I decided to purchase the Belle Floral Top, and I absolutely love it! It has a loose, flowy fit, and the pointed ends make it very figure flattering.

The fabric is a mix of rayon and spandex. It has that silky feel but is very durable. I was honestly surprised by the quality of the fabric for the price! The floral print is also gorgeous. It’s bold, but not too big.

Although this top is kind of dressy, it is perfect for occasions where you want to feel pretty but not too formal. I’m pairing it with my dress leggings, but it also goes well with jeans. I feel like the warm colors, light fabric, and half sleeves make this tunic the perfect transition for autumn.

I hope you all enjoyed this review! I sure did have a lot of fun playing with my camera while outside in my backyard (ignore the kid swings lol). Don’t forget to check out Cleo Madison here when you have the chance.

My Top 5 Favorite Beauty Products

2016-07-21_13.49.48

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! It’s been awhile since I did a beauty post, and even though I blog more about fashion, I still love makeup and hair! So today I want to share my top 5 favorite beauty products. These are the items I use pretty much everyday. I hope that you like them 🙂

1. Spray and Play Hairspray

2016-07-21_13.43.12

Having short hair is pretty easy, but volume is the key to a chic messy style. Spray and Play by Big Sexy Hair has never failed to give my fine hair volume. It lifts it up and holds without ever being too crunchy or weighing it down. My hair is actually quite fine and thin naturally. When it’s all done up I like to joke that it’s 80% hairspray 🙂

2. Anew Vitale Cleanser

2016-07-21_13.25.08

I love Avon and have always used it since I started wearing makeup (I actually used to sell it lol). Vitale is a great cleanser because it gets the job done without being too harsh. The moisturizer is also great too.

3. e.l.f. Eye Primer

2016-07-21_13.37.19

This might be the most beautiful accident to happen in my beauty regimen. I was looking for a cheap eye primer and bought this e.l.f. primer in sheer. It actually looks like a pale pink, which complements my fair skin nicely. Anyway, my dark circles are pretty bad and I didn’t have any concealer. I decided to dab a little of this underneath my eyes, and now I look like a new woman. It seriously covers and brightens under my eyes better than anything I’ve ever used before–for two dollars. Go figure. I don’t know how many different shades there are, so if you’re interested you might want to look it up to find one for your unique skin tone.

4. Tarte Silk Amazonian Clay Eye Liner

2016-07-21_13.47.18

I got this Tarte eye liner as a Christmas present, and it is my favorite! I am a huge eye liner addict, and the cat eye is my signature. This liner goes on so smooth and is highly pigmented. The end has a built in sharpener and blender to create a smoky look. I’ve already used up the black, but the brown and navy liners are subtle and flattering for everyday wear.

5. Doll 10 Lipstick/Lip Gloss Duo

2016-07-21_13.48.28

This was a birthday present that I am so thankful for. The Doll 10 duo comes with lipstick on one end and lip gloss on the other. They are neutral colors that give just enough tint to make my lips look bright. The first one (the top shade on my hand) is French Beige/Buff, and the second one (bottom shade) is Baby Doll/Bella. The lipsticks are super creamy and buildable in color. They don’t dry out my lips at all. And the lip gloss is in no way sticky. In fact, my only complaint would be that the lip gloss isn’t sticky enough to last a long time. But I wear these everyday and love them.

Thanks for reading! It’s always wonderful to share my favorite things with you all. Do you have a favorite beauty product? Comment below!

When you get the chance, please check out my friend’s new blog. Her name is Tianna, and she’s in high school. She very graciously asked me to help her build her site, which can be found at https://growingwithgodsite.wordpress.com/. Thanks for supporting her!

*Note–I am not being paid or endorsed by any of the companies listed above. I just love these products and wanted to share.

My Butterfly, My Muse~A Poem For My Sister

1468902785426

Her hair streaked with gold,

Glistening in the sun.

Her aviators shining,

Reflecting the wonder in my face.

She is that girl,

The tan blonde with boot-cut jeans

And soulful eyes.

My butterfly, my muse.

In all her forms she is lovely,

Her laugh trickling down my spine

Like water.

An Eskimo kiss to send her off

To the land where dreams are falling stars.

And as they wave past,

I see the twinkle in her heavy eyes.

Just don’t fly too far

My butterfly, my muse.

I hope you liked this poem! I love my big sister and have always admired her beauty and love for butterflies. From the time I started writing poetry she has always been an inspiration. She never fails at being my muse. This one’s for you Cecie.
