Dreamer of Oceans and Safaris

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Today is Day 16 of The 30 Day Blog Challenge.

Today’s Topic: Dream Travel Destination

I’ll admit that I’ve had limited travel experience in my life. The first time I left my home state was last year, when I flew to South Carolina. It was also my first plane ride, which has now sparked my addiction to flying.

I loved South Carolina, but since  I went for my brother’s wedding, I wasn’t able to go to the beach. We were near the mountains though, which were fascinating from the view of the plane!

I guess my dream travel destination would be Myrtle Beach. I’ve heard how beautiful the beaches and town are there, and I really want to see the ocean. I can only imagine how beautiful the crystal waters would look from a plane, and I’ve always wanted to experience the majesty of one of God’s finest creations (besides us!).

I also want to go to Ireland. I’m Irish, so I feel like seeing the country where my ancestors are from would be amazing–especially with all of the beautiful architecture and greenery Ireland boasts. I also have a great, great, Grandma who immigrated from Germany, so I would like to visit that country as well.

Recently I have become obsessed with the show Safari Live on Nat Geo WILD. A team of awesome guides takes you on a live safari  in South Africa, and you don’t even have to leave your house! I love the beautiful leopards, lions, giraffes, and cool bugs and plants they show. Plus, since it’s all live you never know what will happen!

This show makes me want to visit South Africa and go on an actual safari. The only issue is that having POTS makes it extremely difficult to be out in the heat. Still, this dreamer is determined to work something out. In the meantime, I want to educate myself more on wild animals and nature in general. I’ve never been an “outdoorsy” girl, but this show is changing me!

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. (Psalm 96:11-12 NIV)

Her Angel Butterfly

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Today is Day 15 of The 30 Day Blog Challenge.

Today’s Topic: Something that you miss.

To be honest, I am crying right now as I think about how much I miss my Grandma Jean. I know she’s not a “thing,” but she is someone who means the world to me. She is with Jesus now, and I am so glad. But I’m also human, which means I still love and miss her.

I miss how she used to sing cute songs with me when I was little.

I miss how she taught me my times tables the summer before the third grade. It was the only time I was ever ahead in math.

I miss the flowers in her garden and how we used to make them dance in a bowl of water.

I miss her yippy little dogs and how they would lick my toes.

I miss spending the night with her and listening to my headphones, thinking of all my teenage woes.

I miss her telling me stories of her childhood, and believe me, some of them were pretty crazy.

I miss coming over to her house–my Grandpa sleeping in his chair while she watched her TV programs and flipped through magazines. She would always share them with me.

I miss how she chewed gum all the time and left it in odd places. She taught me how to blow bubbles when I was little, and I thought that was pretty amazing.

I miss how Grandpa would take me to the doctor or pick me up from school, and we would all go to McDonalds.

I miss her fruit salad. She would make it for every holiday, and it was always my favorite dessert.

I miss eating peanut butter sandwiches with our caffeine free Diet Cokes for lunch after her open heart surgery.

I miss her brutal honesty. She was a woman who would never hold back on her opinion.

I miss hugging her, and the way she would kiss my mouth and get her lipstick all over me.

I miss how she used to call me her Angel Butterfly.

Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4 NKJV).

Thanks for reading! I know this post was pretty emotional, but I believe that writing these feelings out is like therapy.

Finding God in Our Problems

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Unfortunately I don’t have a fashion post for you today, but I am still rolling with the 30 Day Blog Challenge!

Today is Day 14: A problem you have or have had in the past.

If you read Wednesday’s post, then you know that I have recently opened up about my struggle with an eating disorder. I have been in recovery for a year now, and to be honest, I’m pretty sure it will be a lifelong thing. Although God has delivered me, I know that I need Him to keep me on the right path in my life.

A current problem that I’m facing would be fearing the unknown of my future. I have blogged about this before, and I know that it is something so many young adults struggle with. I still have doubts over my career choice as a counselor and whether I will be good enough at it. And I still don’t have a clue how to approach grad school. I’m trying to take things one day at a time right now, which is the way God wants me to think.

I believe everyone can relate to this in some way. How on earth do we solve all of these problems we face? How do we face all of the things in life that weigh us down? How on earth do we even approach God when all we have are issues?

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:33-34 NIV)

Jesus is a present God. He is in the thick of our lives, however messy they may be. He is aware of all our needs, our struggles, and our fears. A lot of people view God as a relationship they can only attain once they become “perfect” or fix what is broken in their lives. But I’m telling you, that’s never going to happen.

But seek first his kingdom.

I don’t think we realize just how powerful this is! You don’t need to have it all together to find God. He wants you for who you are right at this moment.

Are you depressed or anxious? God wants you. Do you struggle with body image issues or an eating disorder? God wants you. Are you facing an addiction or habitual sin? God wants you. Nothing can change the love God has for you. Nothing can get in the way of His beautiful grace.

Once we realize this, we can finally be set free from whatever it is that holds us back or causes us pain. Only when we realize God’s extravagant love for us can we be free from our sins. That’s why a relationship with Jesus is so important. If we don’t have that, then all we have is empty religion that tells us we need to be perfect without giving us a way.

Knowing how much Jesus loves me makes me feel beautiful. It makes me feel protected and safe–even when the world is scary and uncertain.  Knowing the love of my Savior makes me feel like no matter what problem I face, I will be okay.

Because I am God’s and He is mine.

Do you want this love, dear reader? I know that you do deep down. You know that you can’t solve your problems in your own strength. If you could, then you wouldn’t be reading this right now. It’s okay–God can make you whole. He can restore your life and future. And this is coming from a woman who knows what it’s like to be broken!

Surrender your life to Jesus. Tell Him that you believe He died for your sins on the cross. Believe in His loving sacrifice and you will be saved. You will be freed.

You will know your worth. And that, my friend, is the key to having peace in any situation.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NIV)

Spotlight: Calligraphy Artist Rachel Hill

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! I’m on Day 13 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge, and the topic for this post is “someone who fascinates you and why.”

I know a lot of fascinating people. As cliché as it may sound, I think everyone is fascinating in their own way. When you really think about it, everyone has unique knowledge and life skills.  Everyone  is gifted with their own special talents by God. That sounds pretty fascinating to me.

Obviously, the most fascinating person to walk the earth would be Jesus Christ, but He’s also God so that makes Him totally out of our league.

Today I want to focus on a new friend of mine who does fabulous calligraphy work. As you may know from this earlier post, my handwriting skills are pretty basic. I like to do calligraphy sometimes, but I find it really challenging. I may be able to string words together to form a blog post or story, but drawing them with intricacy is a whole different story.

Spotlight: Rachel Hill (Instagram: @pensandpleasures_)

Isn’t her work beautiful? These are just a few of my favorite designs by Rachel. I find simple yet elegant designs like these to be so inspiring.

Since Rachel is a Christian, she does a lot of scripture-based calligraphy as well.  She is also taking drawing requests, so please hop on over to her Instagram (link above) and check her out!

He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers (Exodus 35:35 NIV).

Outfit Inspo: Baroque + My 5 Favorite Movies

Go Baroque

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! I’m already starting to get spring fever as I look out for future fashion trends. Today’s collage is all about baroque!

If you’re a fan of artistic floral, rich texture, and bold colors, this is the trend for you. I love the romantic vibes that baroque gives off. It’s both girly and edgy, as well as vintage. It also makes a great transition into spring. The prints are feminine, yet the darker colors shown above keep it grounded for winter.

If this trend feels a little too bold, it may be best to try baroque in small doses. Accessories like these vintage earrings or velvet embossed ankle booties add a pop of texture without being overwhelming.

Day 12: Favorite Movie

I told you I would continue the challenge! I think it’s fun to shake the fashion posts up a bit. I don’t watch a whole ton of movies (I’m more of a book and magazine nerd), but I do have a few favorites I’d like to share.

1. Fly Away Home–A family friendly movie about a teen girl moving in with her estranged dad after her mother dies. Together, they bond over a flock of abandoned baby geese and teach them to migrate by flying airplanes. Why do I love this movie? The gorgeous music score, planes, and cute geese. Enough said.

2. Star Wars–I am a nerd, and that’s okay. Darth Vader is awesome, Yoda is a beast, and Anakin Skywalker is gorgeous.

3. What About Bob?–This movie both excites and terrifies me when I think about my future career as a counselor. This is an old comedy gem which features Bill Murray as a multi-phobic client who ends up driving his therapist insane. It’s seriously one of the best comedies ever!

4. The Little Mermaid–I love most Disney movies, but Ariel is my favorite princess.

5. Where The Heart Is–The book was really good, but the movie is nostalgic for me. It’s the story about a poor, young pregnant woman who is abandoned by her boyfriend at a Walmart. She ends up living  and giving birth there, but builds a life for herself with the help of some quirky small town people. Plus, it stars Natalie Portman, who is one of my favorite actresses.

There are so many great movies out there, but these are my top 5 timeless classics.
