Beauty and the Butterfly~Nature Meets Fashion

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! I’m starting to become somewhat of a nature lover. I don’t know if it’s because of the warmer weather enticing sprouts of nature to suddenly appear, or the fact that I’m addicted to Safari Live (it’s probably a mix of both).

My creative writing professor has noticed this appreciation of the natural world in my writing and recommended that I read Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard, so I checked it out from my town library. So far it’s a beautiful read, basically poetic non-fiction. Though there really isn’t any major plot to the book, the descriptions of nature are enchanting for those of you who may be looking for that sort of prose.

Anyway, today’s look is all about nature. An enchanted, safari-meets-woods sort of look that anyone can pull off.

Olive green is a hit neutral color this season, and this actually surprised me since darker green hues are usually reserved for fall. I’m not upset in the least bit though, because olive complements most skin tones and hair colors, and it goes well with almost any other color to wear.

I’m obsessed with this top. I mean, who doesn’t love butterflies? My sister and I share a special bond over monarchs. I remember one day when I was in middle school we were sitting in her car parked in front of her apartment with the windows down. Suddenly two monarchs fluttered in and perched themselves on the dash, and it was as if they were just staring at us–until they flew away.

The whimsical, graceful beauty of butterfly prints against an olive or tan neutral is gorgeous. Of course, any animal or insect print–such as zebra, leopard, bumble bee, or ladybug–will do. Keep makeup simple and neutral, using peach powders to give yourself an all natural glow.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)

Dreamer of Oceans and Safaris

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Today is Day 16 of The 30 Day Blog Challenge.

Today’s Topic: Dream Travel Destination

I’ll admit that I’ve had limited travel experience in my life. The first time I left my home state was last year, when I flew to South Carolina. It was also my first plane ride, which has now sparked my addiction to flying.

I loved South Carolina, but since  I went for my brother’s wedding, I wasn’t able to go to the beach. We were near the mountains though, which were fascinating from the view of the plane!

I guess my dream travel destination would be Myrtle Beach. I’ve heard how beautiful the beaches and town are there, and I really want to see the ocean. I can only imagine how beautiful the crystal waters would look from a plane, and I’ve always wanted to experience the majesty of one of God’s finest creations (besides us!).

I also want to go to Ireland. I’m Irish, so I feel like seeing the country where my ancestors are from would be amazing–especially with all of the beautiful architecture and greenery Ireland boasts. I also have a great, great, Grandma who immigrated from Germany, so I would like to visit that country as well.

Recently I have become obsessed with the show Safari Live on Nat Geo WILD. A team of awesome guides takes you on a live safari  in South Africa, and you don’t even have to leave your house! I love the beautiful leopards, lions, giraffes, and cool bugs and plants they show. Plus, since it’s all live you never know what will happen!

This show makes me want to visit South Africa and go on an actual safari. The only issue is that having POTS makes it extremely difficult to be out in the heat. Still, this dreamer is determined to work something out. In the meantime, I want to educate myself more on wild animals and nature in general. I’ve never been an “outdoorsy” girl, but this show is changing me!

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. (Psalm 96:11-12 NIV)

Trending~Animal Couture

Hello lovely readers and followers! I know it’s Monday, but I hope you’re having a great start to your week. I know for us college students it’s crunch time with midterms and end of the semester preparations.

You know what always cheers me up? Cute animals! (Cats of Instagram anyone?) So naturally, I want animals to be a part of my everyday life. Even though you may be like me and have a furry friend at home to cuddle your stress away, what about when you leave?

I found the solution! Now you can “wear” your favorite cute animal! Pet themed sweaters, jewelry, and purses are trending right now, and they make an easy Halloween costume. Cats, puppies, owls, and other critters are making it onto everything this season. Wear these items with a nice jacket and jeans for a polished everyday look.

Help a Dog!

So I went back and forth in my mind deciding whether or not my blog would be an appropriate place to share this.

Well, since my friend Cody is in desperate need, the Holy Spirit is tugging my heart, and this is my blog, why not!

image

This is Cody, and he is one extraordinary young man. I often take a cab to college because I can’t drive (due to health issues). Anyway, Cody picks me up a lot, and I’ve gotten to know him quite well.

Cody is in his twenties but works twelve hour shifts so he can take care of himself and his fourteen year old nephew--who he’s raising on his own. This is a guy who rarely complains and has a sweet heart, but is now devastated to find out his eight year old dog Elvira has tumors.

Elvira needs surgery to remove the tumors before they become cancerous. If they get them out in time, then she can live several more years! But with all that Cody has on his plate, he’s finding it hard to come up with the money.

This is a man who loves his dog, and most of us can sympathize because we also have fur babies! If you can, I’m asking you to please consider donating to Elvira’s Go Fund Me.

Even if you can’t donate (which is totally fine), please keep Cody and Elvira in your prayers that he will get the money, and that God’s love and healing would surround them. Thanks so much for reading and supporting!
