Handwriting and Hypotonia~Day 9 of The 30 Day Blog Challenge

Hello lovely readers and followers! Welcome back to Day 9 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge!

Today’s Topic: A Picture of Your Handwriting

My Handwriting

Isn’t it glorious? This is a snapshot of my notes from my Human Services class. My handwriting is actually pretty good here (although that wasn’t my intention). I know what you’re probably thinking: wow, if that’s her good handwriting, what does her bad handwriting look like?

Basically, my average/bad handwriting looks like some form of elementary cursive mixed with chicken scratch. Not bad enough to be a doctor, but not pretty enough to write cute notes for Instagram either.

I always struggled with handwriting as a child because I was born with hypotonia. My muscles are healthy, but they sort of lag when it comes to reaction time. My muscles may be as strong as a normal person, but they are lazier. When I was a baby, I was “floppy.” I didn’t eat well or walk until I was two. Anything physical usually takes me twice the effort to accomplish.

I was teased in school because I could never run fast or climb the rope in gym class. I also had a hard time with fine motor skills, such as writing and typing. At the beginning of high school, I could only type 17 words per minute. I took a typing class and worked hard, and now I’m almost at 60 words per minute!

I always try to give my hands a good workout by writing, typing , knitting, and crafting. They have gotten better tone and less lazy this way. Yoga has also helped my muscles immensely. Although I still struggle with certain activities, you couldn’t tell just by looking at me. I only know of one other person with hypotonia, so if you struggle with it, let me know!

It looks like this post was another rant about my health. I guess if there’s one thing I want you lovely readers to remember from this post, it’s that with a lot of hard work and persistence, you can do just about anything. With God on your side, you will not fail.

I may not have the prettiest handwriting on the block, but it’s mine and I like it. My friend Lauren tells me that carefree handwriting is a sign of good intelligence. I think I like the sound of that!

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him (James 1:12 NIV).

My Favorite Foods~Day 5 of The 30 Day Blog Challenge

Hello lovely readers and followers! Welcome back to Day 5 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge!

Today’s Topic: My Favorite Foods and Why

My Favorite Foods

I kind of consider myself a foodie, as I love to eat. I am a picky eater though. My stomach only tolerates bland foods, so some people may think my tastes are rather boring. These are five of the most interesting and tasty dishes that I love!

1. Breakfast Food

I have a thing for breakfast food–it’s almost like a romance really. I’m definitely not a morning person, and sometimes the thought of breakfast is the only motivation for me not to hit the snooze button! I love cereal, oatmeal, eggs, toast, and muffins. I love french toast and bacon–especially at Cracker Barrel. And if I could,  I would live off of McDonald’s breakfast biscuits.

(Cracker Barrel is bae)

2. My Mom’s Meat Balls and Spaghetti

I really wish I had a photo of my mom’s amazing cooking! You know it’s a holiday in my house when you wake up to the smell of sweet and sour meatballs in the crock pot. My mom’s spaghetti is also amazing and tangy–great comfort food on a cold winter night.

3. Sweet Potatoes

Inside of me is a southern girl trying to get out. Let’s face it, sweet potatoes are the candy of the vegetable world.

4. Ice Cream

Although my IBS says no, my heart says pretty please (with sprinkles!). Ice cream is my food of choice all spring and summer. Cookies and cream is my favorite, but I also love Fruity Pebbles or vanilla with sprinkles.

5. Subs

My obsession with sub sandwiches started with my digestive issues. Subs are bland (when they have no sauce), and contain all of the food groups you need. They are easy on my stomach and so delicious. I love trying new sub shops and putting chips on my sandwiches!

Casual Friday Fashion + Prayer Request

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! I’ve been up to my elbows in exams and course work, but by God’s grace I am making it! I must admit it has been a struggle though. My IBS has been flaring up, and I am consulting with my specialists to try and figure out where to go from here. I think I need a whole regimen change, so please pray for direction and healing!

Today’s post is about everyday casual fashion. Sometimes what a girl needs is a good pair of jeans, a comfy sweater, and a big mug of coffee or tea!

I used a lot of gray for this collage because it’s my favorite neutral. And for all of my crazy cat ladies out there–check out those flats! The cat mug is also adorable.

I paired a comfy pullover with some boyfriend jeans for a casual, yet chic look. I also like taupe eye shadow to keep things casual and natural. Thankfully there are lots of affordable neutral palettes at drug stores.

I hope you liked this post! Please feel free to comment and share. I also want to thank you for keeping me in your prayers. I plan on doing another health update in the near future!

Confession–I hate scheduling blog posts. Although I may plan to write about certain topics, I find that I just can’t force it creatively.

So here’s to tonight’s rant (yes, it’s Tuesday night as I write this). Right now I have a migraine and it sucks. It feels like my whole body has been working against me these last couple of years. I have IBS, POTS, and these stupid neurological migraines.

And yet, even as I write this I feel guilty for complaining. After all, I don’t have cancer or anything. I really am quite blessed. I guess it’s just hard because I have so much I want to be doing like work and becoming a yoga instructor, but my body is almost always tired or dizzy. And of course, it’s always frustrating when no one can give you any clear cut answers.

Anyway, after this past weekend’s hospital visit for unexplainable dizziness and low blood pressure, I’ve decided I’ve had it. It looks like I will be going out of state this summer to specialists to finally get more answers and better treatment.

I’m not giving up. The devil will not beat me. I know where my hope is found. My life is completely anchored in Christ, and I know I’ll come out stronger because of this. God is doing a good thing in my body, and I am learning to trust in Him.

I’m asking for prayers of healing and answers please! And if any of you reading this suffer from any chronic health condition–you are not alone. God sees you, and He loves you. He has a plan, even though we can’t always see what He’s doing.

Sometimes God takes life’s biggest battles and uses them to draw us closer to Him. Sometimes the challenges of life are what anchors us to our one true hope–Jesus Christ.

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil (Hebrews 6:19 NKJV).

Blog and Life Update

Happy Friday everyone! And what a good Friday it is as I tell you that I’m becoming more serious about blogging 🙂 I really have a passion for writing and ministering to others through the written word, so I want to post more often and expand my number of lovely readers and followers.

Feel free to use the comments section to voice your opinion on what I should write about. After all, you are one of the biggest reasons why I am doing this!

I really hopped on the social media band wagon and made a Facebook page, and you can also find me on Instagram @fearfullywonderfullyme.

I also made a Tumblr! I really like Tumblr because it’s like a mini blog, and you can ask me questions easily. I think Fearfully Wonderfully Me’s social media presence will be a great way to express myself, keep you all updated, and connected!

You may see me post these links for a few more posts, as I want others to know that this blog is going viral (lol for bad humor). You can also find these links on my About Me page.

Now for some life updates!

I’ve been really trying to practice yoga regularly, and I definitely want to start teacher training this winter or spring! Anyway, I have been trying to get healthier in general considering my health issues. My body is definitely not cooperating with me, and it needs a little TLC.

So here’s my little collage of things that have made me feel like a total hippie lately. I have some Veggie Chips, which actually taste like regular chips, only they give me some vegetables the sneaky way since I have the palate of a small child. I also have these cute yoga shirts from Prana (I got them super discounted) that are adorable for everyday wear.

Recently I have been researching essential oils. I was skeptical at first, but I have been dealing with stress and anxiety lately, as well as fatigue and insomnia. So far I like them. The stress relief one really does have a calming effect and the sleep one is soothing as well. Plus, they are in roller ball form, so it’s like perfume!

And this is another huge part of my life. My dear friend Paige and I are getting ready for a craft show, and I am trying to pump out the jewelry like crazy! It’s a little stressful, but lots of fun.

Anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend! I can’t wait for what the future has in store for this blog.

Love, Emily <3
