4 Ways to Stay Motivated in the New Year

If you’re reading this post, that means you have made it through the first week of 2020! And my hope and prayer is that the last week was full of hope and expectation of the year to come.

To be honest, I’ve never been one to set a lot of goals in the New Year. Although I’m naturally a more positive, hopeful person, sometimes I feel let down by the countless stories of failed resolutions.

Maybe it’s the new decade or the prompting of the Holy Spirit for a fresh outpouring of hope, but this year I have set goals for my personal life, marriage, blog, spiritual life, and work.

I find that it’s always easy to set goals. The real kicker is actually staying motivated. I’m not alone, right?

Suddenly our workout plans turn into nights on the couch with the cat, and our old habits creep back in by February.

It doesn’t have to end this way. We can stay motivated through 2020 by following 4 Biblical strategies that have stood the test of time.

1. Seek God Above All

If you’re a Christian, then this seems like a no-brainer. But how often do we set goals and make resolutions without even praying about them?

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him (Lamentations 3:25 NIV)

The Lord promises His goodness when we seek Him. I believe that as daughters of God, our first and main goal in life is to devote ourselves to Jesus. And every other goal should play a supporting role to this purpose.

The best goal you can ever set is to build intimacy with Jesus. When we do this, His Lordship will guide our lives in the right direction for His Kingdom.

4 Ways to Stay Motivated in the New Year

2. Be an Early Bird

I’m not a morning person when I first wake up. I lay there for a few minutes listing all the reasons why I must get out of bed. The struggle is real!

But despite this, I’ve actually found that I’m most productive during the morning hours.

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. (Psalm 5:3 NIV)

Rising early is a Biblical discipline that we should still practice today. Starting our day with prayer and reading the Word will put us in the right mindset to live out our calling in Christ.

Another benefit to completing everyday work early is that if you get the hard tasks out of the way first, then you feel accomplished and ready to take on the rest of your day!

3. Write it Down

Vision boards are a huge trend right now, and for good reason. When we write out–or display–our goals, then it excites and reminds us of what we originally set out to accomplish.

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. (Proverbs 29:18 KJV

The Bible shows us how a lack of vision for our future only leads to destruction. Part of sustaining a God-centered vision includes writing out our goals.

The best way to stay motivated when writing goals is to make sure you write them in a place you can easily see them. For me, that’s my planner.

You could also hang your goals above your desk, on the fridge, or another easy to see spot. When your goals are right in front of you, it provides the catalyst for motivation.

4. Celebrate the Little Steps

It’s almost impossible to stay motivated when we feel overwhelmed by our goals. That’s why it’s important to break them down into baby steps.

For example, I want to dedicate more time to writing. Taking small steps like blocking off certain times of the day for writing, or reading inspirational books every month, keep this goal manageable.

We must also devote our efforts in accomplishing goals to please our Savior. This means taking every step with Christ in our minds and gratitude in our hearts.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17 NIV)

None of us are perfect, but thankfully we have Christ’s perfection in us. Some goals will change, while others may fail. But it’s important to celebrate every win–big or small.

After all, every glory belongs to God. We find our greatest joy when pleasing the heart of Jesus is our greatest motivation

Marigold Hope

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Spring is officially here, and I’m loving the sunshine and longer nights. Even though losing sleep from daylight saving’s time is no fun, a night owl like me sure does appreciate the extra hours of evening light.

Spring reminds me of hope, and right now a friend of mine needs a good dose of that. His name is Rob, and he just had surgery to remove pancreatic cancer. Though the odds may be against him, God is always in his favor. I believe in the Lord’s healing power, and I’m asking for agreement in prayer over Rob’s body and spirit. Please also keep his wife and three daughters in your prayers.

Thank you lovely ones. Together we can #WAGEHOPE!

Today’s collages are all about Marigold. I know a lot of people refer to this color as mustard yellow, but to be honest, I hate the name “mustard” (it’s also a topping I don’t like the taste of lol). I feel like marigold is a much prettier name, so that’s what I’m going to call it from here on out.

I know a lot of people shy away from yellow because they think it won’t be flattering, but that’s just not true. A golden yellow looks great on almost every skin tone and hair color.

The only exception would be for those who have lighter blonde hair or a red undertone to their skin. But there’s a solution for this! A pale or subtle yellow print (pictured top left) is perfect because it will not compete with skin tone or hair color.

Marigold is bright and cheerful, which is why it’s perfect for spring. Since marigold is a pop of color, you don’t need to go overboard on accessories. A simple blouse like those pictured above–or even a sundress–is perfect for a casual Friday or dinner with friends.

When it comes to pants, shoes, or other accessories, plum, navy, or black will ground this color perfectly. And if you really want to go bold, try pairing ruby heels with your marigold blouse or dress.

I would also suggest keeping your makeup simple, since yellow tends to brighten skin. A light pink or cherry lip color looks pretty and polished when paired with golden hues.

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. (1 Peter 1:6-7 NIV)

How to Wear Blush Eyeshadow

Happy Friday (and Saint Patrick’s Day) lovely readers and followers! I’m back from spring break, and this week has felt long and productive.  Sometimes things can make us feel so busy that we take them for granted.

I like how God is reviving my passion for life again. Don’t get me wrong, I consider myself a pretty mellow and optimistic person. But I’ve also been battling stress and anxiety lately. Talk about a killjoy.

Did you know that your comments can literally make a difference in my day? I know that I may not write the most riveting or mind blowing posts in the world, but if something I write touches you in some way, let me know. That comment section at the end of each post is where I’ve had some really amazing conversations. I want you to be a part of them.

I love how God uses little things like a text message or the comment section of a blog post to bring me back to reality again–to bring me back to His purpose for my life. Has God ever reached out to you like that before?

(See more of my Polyvore collections)

Today’s fashion post is actually a beauty post! When I first saw blush eye shadow trending in a magazine, the only thing I could think of was that my already bloodshot eyes would look even more dried up and scary (darn allergies).

But the more I experiment with blush eye shadow, the more I see how it can actually be very flattering on any skin tone. This soft, romantic shade is appropriate for any occasion and is just right for spring.

For those of us who are used to neutrals or smokey eyes, taking a leap into pink hues can seem a little challenging. The key is mixing and blending. I find that a peach  or burgundy shadow looks better on me than  lavender or heavy pink colors.

If you’re on board to try this pretty trend, my best advice would be to find a pallet that has plenty of blendable bronze and gray shades (see bottom pallet). If you’re used to a darker or smokey eye, burgundy or plum shades are the way to go (see top left).

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:11 NIV)

The Art of Learning~Day 10 of The 30 Day Blog Challenge

Hello lovely readers and followers! Welcome back to Day 10 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge!

Today’s Topic: How Important You Think Education Is.

I think education is super important. Almost anyone will tell you that. I believe that many Americans take school for granted, since the law forces children to go.  There are other countries where kids would give just about anything to learn to read and write. They would give anything to learn how they can make a difference in the world.

I also believe that lifelong learning is important. College may not be for everyone, but there are so many books to read and trades to learn. No matter who you are or what your financial situation is, we are all capable of learning something.

I believe that developing curiosity for the world around us is necessary to live a fulfilling life. Just go outside and look at the earth and sky God has created! Look at the stars highlighting their dark canvas, or the way animals live in harmony. Look at the way people interact with one another and what motivates them. Doesn’t that make you want to learn?

One of my favorite quotes on learning is by my favorite actress, Natalie Portman (who graduated from Harvard by the way).

I don’t love studying. I hate studying. I like learning. Learning is beautiful. —Natalie Portman

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I hate studying, but it really doesn’t captivate me either. Learning, however, is like art. I guess I’m making a huge nerd out of myself, but that’s okay. I hope to keep learning about the world around me even when I’m done with college.
