Pretty as a Peach

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! I’ve been having a long, yet productive week, and I’m so glad that I get to relax a little this weekend. Makeup has become my latest obsession over these past few months. I always get nice makeup for Christmas (especially from my sister), including Laura Geller and Bare Minerals.

When I think about all of the makeup mistakes I’ve made as a teen, it really makes me laugh. I used to have “raccoon eyes” when I experimented with eyeliner, and I even wore black lipstick in middle school! #rebel. Do you have any embarrassing makeup stories? Let me know in the comments below.

Today’s collage is dedicated to the color palette of the year–peach! I think the reason Hollywood’s makeup artists are so obsessed with peach is because it looks flattering on everyone. It gives a soft glow, without ever being too bright or too dark. This makes it the ideal shade for blush or a highlighter.

Peach eye shadow has also become a new trend. The key to mastering this summer look without falling into red-eye territory is by blending your peach eyeshadow with other bronze and gold shades (see top left palette).

Let’s not forget about lips! Peach lip-gloss or lipstick is an easy way to rock a bolder lip. It’s less intimidating than red, but more mature than pink.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

How to Wear Blush Eyeshadow

Happy Friday (and Saint Patrick’s Day) lovely readers and followers! I’m back from spring break, and this week has felt long and productive.  Sometimes things can make us feel so busy that we take them for granted.

I like how God is reviving my passion for life again. Don’t get me wrong, I consider myself a pretty mellow and optimistic person. But I’ve also been battling stress and anxiety lately. Talk about a killjoy.

Did you know that your comments can literally make a difference in my day? I know that I may not write the most riveting or mind blowing posts in the world, but if something I write touches you in some way, let me know. That comment section at the end of each post is where I’ve had some really amazing conversations. I want you to be a part of them.

I love how God uses little things like a text message or the comment section of a blog post to bring me back to reality again–to bring me back to His purpose for my life. Has God ever reached out to you like that before?

Today’s fashion post is actually a beauty post! When I first saw blush eye shadow trending in a magazine, the only thing I could think of was that my already bloodshot eyes would look even more dried up and scary (darn allergies).

But the more I experiment with blush eye shadow, the more I see how it can actually be very flattering on any skin tone. This soft, romantic shade is appropriate for any occasion and is just right for spring.

For those of us who are used to neutrals or smokey eyes, taking a leap into pink hues can seem a little challenging. The key is mixing and blending. I find that a peach  or burgundy shadow looks better on me than  lavender or heavy pink colors.

If you’re on board to try this pretty trend, my best advice would be to find a pallet that has plenty of blendable bronze and gray shades (see bottom pallet). If you’re used to a darker or smokey eye, burgundy or plum shades are the way to go (see top left).

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:11 NIV)

Should Christians Wear Makeup?

This one goes out to all my Christian ladies who like makeup. Many of you have probably wondered at some point if it is appropriate for a Christian to wear makeup. I’ve heard many opinions–ranging from no way–to go for it!

I love makeup. I’m not super talented at applying it, but I will say that I can rock a good cat eye. Of course, I’ve wondered about God’s opinion on makeup and how it fits in a Biblical view of modesty.

Let’s turn to God’s Word, which should be the ultimate authority on the decisions we make as Christians.

For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7NKJV).

We live in a culture that is obsessed with appearance–especially for females. We take selfies and spend our days on social media, so naturally we tend to think about our appearance. However, God isn’t so impressed. He already knows we’re beautiful because He created us–fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

What really concerns God is the state of our souls. He wants us to be in a relationship with Him above all else. Jesus never gave a sermon on makeup or fashion because He was more concerned about how we were loving Him and those around us.

Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God (1 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV).

I go a lot deeper on modesty in this post. The main point of this scripture is that modesty and appearance for a Christian–man or woman–should be about classiness and moderation. We shouldn’t be flashy or extreme, and we shouldn’t spend the majority of our time on our looks. It’s all about balance.

I believe this also applies to makeup. When you apply it to your face, ask yourself, am I doing this to get attention? Am I doing this because I don’t like myself? God knows our hearts and He cares about that the most. He wants His daughters to know their beauty and worth–with or without makeup.

Verse 4 (above) mentions the “hidden person of the heart.” This reminds us of God’s focus–our hearts and souls.

Makeup isn’t bad or sinful. It’s about our motives. We need to examine ourselves and our reasons for wearing makeup. I believe makeup is for creative fun and highlighting the natural beauty God gave us.

Remember lovely, you are beautiful and loved by your Heavenly Father. Whether you wear makeup or not will never change this. Always remember your worth in Christ, and let that love radiate to all.

That is true beauty.

My Top 5 Favorite Beauty Products

2016-07-21_13.49.48

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! It’s been awhile since I did a beauty post, and even though I blog more about fashion, I still love makeup and hair! So today I want to share my top 5 favorite beauty products. These are the items I use pretty much everyday. I hope that you like them 🙂

1. Spray and Play Hairspray

2016-07-21_13.43.12

Having short hair is pretty easy, but volume is the key to a chic messy style. Spray and Play by Big Sexy Hair has never failed to give my fine hair volume. It lifts it up and holds without ever being too crunchy or weighing it down. My hair is actually quite fine and thin naturally. When it’s all done up I like to joke that it’s 80% hairspray 🙂

2. Anew Vitale Cleanser

2016-07-21_13.25.08

I love Avon and have always used it since I started wearing makeup (I actually used to sell it lol). Vitale is a great cleanser because it gets the job done without being too harsh. The moisturizer is also great too.

3. e.l.f. Eye Primer

2016-07-21_13.37.19

This might be the most beautiful accident to happen in my beauty regimen. I was looking for a cheap eye primer and bought this e.l.f. primer in sheer. It actually looks like a pale pink, which complements my fair skin nicely. Anyway, my dark circles are pretty bad and I didn’t have any concealer. I decided to dab a little of this underneath my eyes, and now I look like a new woman. It seriously covers and brightens under my eyes better than anything I’ve ever used before–for two dollars. Go figure. I don’t know how many different shades there are, so if you’re interested you might want to look it up to find one for your unique skin tone.

4. Tarte Silk Amazonian Clay Eye Liner

2016-07-21_13.47.18

I got this Tarte eye liner as a Christmas present, and it is my favorite! I am a huge eye liner addict, and the cat eye is my signature. This liner goes on so smooth and is highly pigmented. The end has a built in sharpener and blender to create a smoky look. I’ve already used up the black, but the brown and navy liners are subtle and flattering for everyday wear.

5. Doll 10 Lipstick/Lip Gloss Duo

2016-07-21_13.48.28

This was a birthday present that I am so thankful for. The Doll 10 duo comes with lipstick on one end and lip gloss on the other. They are neutral colors that give just enough tint to make my lips look bright. The first one (the top shade on my hand) is French Beige/Buff, and the second one (bottom shade) is Baby Doll/Bella. The lipsticks are super creamy and buildable in color. They don’t dry out my lips at all. And the lip gloss is in no way sticky. In fact, my only complaint would be that the lip gloss isn’t sticky enough to last a long time. But I wear these everyday and love them.

Beauty Giveaway Unboxing!

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Today is a very special post. A few weeks ago, I entered a giveaway on Emily Nueva’s blog. She’s a blogger with great style and creativity, and a wide variety of posts. Please take the time to check her out when you get the chance. 🙂

I just want to say thank you to Emily (how cool is it that we both have the same name?). I am so psyched because this is my first blog giveaway that I’ve ever entered–and I won! This proves that sometimes it’s good to just take a chance. Now I must unbox what I got! By the way, the package came from Norway, so I was especially giddy as this is the first international package I’ve ever received!

The first thing I opened was the beautiful handwritten note Emily wrote for me. Isn’t the rose stationary lovely?

The next item I opened was the Tangle Teezer hair brush! This compact hair brush is made for detangling wet hair, and I just love the leopard print. My hair is still quite short, so I mainly just comb it. However, now that I’m growing my pixie cut into a bob, I think I will be using this brush very soon!

Emily also sent me this gorgeous UCanBe 15 color eye shadow pallet. I just love the shimmer nude and bronze shades! The two dark colors in the middle row make an excellent eye liner when wet; while the end shades at the bottom two rows are the perfect pink! I really love how smoothly the colors go on and blend.

Here’s a selfie of me wearing the shimmer pink shades. I used the dark brown shadow to line my eyes in my usual cat eye.

And of course you can’t put on eye shadow without brushes! Emily also sent me these wonderful makeup brushes by Make-Up For You. I actually really needed some new brushes, so this was a pleasant surprise! I used the big fluffy brush for my illuminating powder (worn in the photo above), and the eye liner brush and thicker shadow brush for my eye makeup. The fold-up case is also super convenient for storage.

I feel so blessed to be able to receive this gift! I will definitely be using these products regularly. So now I have a question for you dear readers–should I do a giveaway one of these days? Let me know what you think below!

Thanks for reading 🙂 Please feel free to comment and share 🙂
