Earth Day + Floral Patch Denim

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! Tomorrow is Earth Day. Okay, you may be thinking. Why should I care about Earth Day?  Well, God cares, so that should be a good reason.

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it (Psalm 24:1 NIV)

As human beings, we tend to think that the world is ours. However, God is the one who created the universe and the planet we live on, so it’s actually His. That being said, God did give us the world for us to be temporary stewards of (Genesis 1:26). This is quite an honor, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. The world is meant for us to live in, enjoy, and share with all of creation.

Before I get off of my soap box, I just want to list a few simple ways you can celebrate Earth Day this year.

  • Watch a nature documentary–Like Born in China–with friends or family.
  • Plant some trees or participate in an Adopt-A-Highway program.
  • Go for a walk outside and take pictures of different plant and animal species.
  • Go thrift shopping! It’s a great way to shop because you are actually recycling clothing.

Okay, now I’m off of my Earth Day soapbox, but I need to jump on another one–fashion!

Denim. It’s the fabric that has taken over fashion in terms of jeans, jackets, and dresses. It’s worn in many different shades and styles, but this season’s trend of floral patch jeans has to be the most adorable.

Floral patch jeans are easy to wear and perfect for spring and summer. Usually lighter shades of denim are the most popular for this trend, especially in the warmer months.

Since floral printed jeans make a statement of their own, pair them with a simple blouse, like this blush tank top. If you’re worried about your outfit looking too girly, switch things up with some sneakers! I love Converse because they come in all sorts of colors, and they make every outfit look casual and chic.

Beauty and the Butterfly~Nature Meets Fashion

Happy Friday lovely readers and followers! I’m starting to become somewhat of a nature lover. I don’t know if it’s because of the warmer weather enticing sprouts of nature to suddenly appear, or the fact that I’m addicted to Safari Live (it’s probably a mix of both).

My creative writing professor has noticed this appreciation of the natural world in my writing and recommended that I read Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard, so I checked it out from my town library. So far it’s a beautiful read, basically poetic non-fiction. Though there really isn’t any major plot to the book, the descriptions of nature are enchanting for those of you who may be looking for that sort of prose.

Anyway, today’s look is all about nature. An enchanted, safari-meets-woods sort of look that anyone can pull off.

Olive green is a hit neutral color this season, and this actually surprised me since darker green hues are usually reserved for fall. I’m not upset in the least bit though, because olive complements most skin tones and hair colors, and it goes well with almost any other color to wear.

I’m obsessed with this top. I mean, who doesn’t love butterflies? My sister and I share a special bond over monarchs. I remember one day when I was in middle school we were sitting in her car parked in front of her apartment with the windows down. Suddenly two monarchs fluttered in and perched themselves on the dash, and it was as if they were just staring at us–until they flew away.

The whimsical, graceful beauty of butterfly prints against an olive or tan neutral is gorgeous. Of course, any animal or insect print–such as zebra, leopard, bumble bee, or ladybug–will do. Keep makeup simple and neutral, using peach powders to give yourself an all natural glow.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)
