No Compromise

This weekend, millions of women and men will go out and watch the movie Fifty Shades of Grey. I’m not going to write about why you shouldn’t see that movie. I don’t think I need to tell you that it’s porn (no matter who says otherwise), and that porn is rooted in human trafficking and the destruction of lives and marriages. This is a message for Christians who may be compromising their values this weekend. This is a message for believers who, despite knowing in their hearts that this movie is evil, are still willing to see it.

Don’t get me wrong– I’m not trying to condemn you or tell you how awful you are. This temptation is there for all believers, including myself. The world is full of sin and temptations everyday. Movies, T.V., magazines and books, celebrities, and even world leaders are often in conflict with Christ.

quote compromise

News flash ladies– we are not of this world.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2 KJV).

We, as Christians, are set apart from this world. We are not to conform to the world’s standards, but to the standards of our King, Jesus Christ. God says that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. It’s simply not enough to go to church and read our Bibles; we need to practice what we preach!

You can’t call yourself a Christian and act the same as you did before you were saved. You can’t watch all of the same movies, or dress the same, or even talk the same. As a woman of God, you are called to be a light in this world.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

If you go about walking in sin and worldliness, then you are compromising your beliefs. And let me tell you, compromise only leads to more sin and more destruction in our lives. God doesn’t want us to compromise when we surrender ourselves to Him– it’s all or nothing. God gives us a warning about lukewarm (compromising) Christians in Revelation 3:16. He does not want us to live lives of compromise.

We all need to ask ourselves, if a stranger saw my life and how I was living, would they know that I’m a Christian? Would they know that I’m a daughter of God, who’s been set apart from this world? We need to stop living our lives with one foot in God’s truth and one foot in the world. God has a life of love, peace, and mercy for all of us, but we need to fully surrender our lives to Him and stop compromising what is right for what is popular. Please remember this, not only this week, but for the rest of your life.

Love, Emily <3
